Secondary Class Guides

Crusader is the holy and shield-oriented second-class continuation of , turning a durable melee base into a class that can level as a holy caster, spear bruiser, or defensive support. On Age of Ymir, that means access to defining skills like , , , and .
Crusader naturally scales through high VIT and defense, then branches into STR for melee damage, INT for Grand Cross and support scaling, or AGI for faster spear play. That flexibility makes it a clean route into . AoY's Game Changes also make stronger in dense PvM because it hits all monsters stacked on the same cell, while has its reflected damage limited by your Max HP.

Builds
This is the iconic holy AoE Crusader route. It builds around and uses both ATK and MATK, so the build benefits from a mixed stat spread instead of a pure melee setup.
High STR and INT improve damage, VIT keeps you stable while mobbing, and DEX reduces cast time. On AoY, also hits every monster standing on the same stacked cell, and the server's Game Changes note that the Rideword Hat combo is enabled here. It is one of the best Crusader options if you want to specialize into holy-heavy leveling with strong clustered pulls.
This is the direct single-target Crusader route. It uses as the main damage skill while keeping and a partial investment for flexibility.
Two-handed spears are the practical fit here because AoY’s Holy Cross gains extra damage with two-handed weapons, so the build transitions cleanly between single-target grinding and occasional holy AoE.
This is the lower-cost melee route for players who want fast single-target grinding instead of holy spell burst. It leans on , , and mounted spear uptime from .
High AGI drives ASPD and Flee, while STR and VIT keep the damage and survivability stable. This is the easiest Crusader route to play if you want cheap sustain and direct melee leveling.
This route focuses on shield-based utility and party support. , , , and make Crusader valuable in parties long before Paladin.
This is not the fastest solo leveling route, but it fits players who want to build around tanking, protecting allies, and using heavier shields to improve shield-skill damage.

Tactics
| Focus | Notes |
|---|---|
| When mobbing or tanking groups of monsters, Crusader will still burn through healing items. remains one of the cheapest practical recovery options for AoE leveling and frontline play. | |
| For shield routes, heavier shields directly improve the damage of and , so shield weight matters as much as the defensive side. | |
| , , and give Crusader strong party identity even when your main leveling build is offensive. |
Equipment
For early beginners on AoY, the remain the cleanest starting point. The spear path is especially efficient because those free upgrades continue to be useful on Crusader and later Paladin.
| Equipment | Description |
|---|---|
| is a practical spear option for AGI and spear-focused Crusaders who want reliable melee performance. | |
| and later Eden spear upgrades are efficient free progression weapons for spear and Holy Cross routes. | |
| Shield Crusader routes usually begin with practical shield choices like or , then scale upward based on defensive needs and shield weight. | |
| AGI spear setups commonly build around the Morrigane package: , , and for crit-oriented melee play. | |
| Budget armor combinations like plus or the Odin gear line are still practical if you are not investing heavily yet. | |
| Crusader benefits from carrying cheap healing in every build path. is still the standard low-cost sustain item for mobbing and tanking. |
Leveling
| Level Range | Location | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 55-70 | Fresh Crusaders can still use the same practical midgame flow as Swordman lines through , especially if you are still building your holy or shield setup. | |
| 70-85 | Holy-oriented Crusaders do well against undead-heavy content. and are both good fits for Grand Cross and Holy Cross routes, and AoY's stacked-mob Grand Cross behavior makes clustered pulls especially rewarding. | |
| 85-99 | is a classic late holy target for Crusaders that want to lean fully into undead and demon damage bonuses while preparing for Paladin. |
Job Change
You can become a Crusader once your Swordsman reaches Job Level 40 or 50. On Age of Ymir, you have two practical routes:
| Route | What You Get | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Official Crusader class access through the full castle test line in , including item collection, endurance, written, and battle tests. | This is the route to take if you want the full guild process. Most of the quest takes place inside the Prontera Castle area. | |
| Immediate Crusader advancement and automatic quest/platinum skills through . | The Job Master route is the convenience option for second classes. It skips the official test chain and does not add a separate secondary-class reward bundle. |
Recommendation
- Take the official route if you want the full Crusader guild process.
- Use the AoY Job Master if you want to move directly into Crusader for progression.
