Novice

A Novice is the starting point for every Human character in Ragnarok Online, and on Age of Ymir that means your first few levels are about learning the game, deciding on a class branch, and collecting useful beginner support. Even with only a few skills, Novices can already make practical use of Basic SkillBasic Skill, First AidFirst Aid, and Play DeadPlay Dead while they work toward a first class or an expanded path like Super NoviceSuper Novice.

Novice is all about learning the basics, reaching your first milestones safely, and deciding which class route fits the way you want to play. The guide below focuses on efficient early progression, useful beginner systems, and the class paths that open once you are ready to move forward.

Details

Novices are the starting class for all Human characters, with no death EXP penalty, simple utility skills, and the freedom to branch into almost any early-game job path.

Play Dead

This is the standard Novice route for players who want to stretch the class toward Super NoviceSuper Novice. Since Novice has no real combat skills, the focus is on one-target auto-attacks while using Play DeadPlay Dead to disengage from danger. Ideal monsters are passive targets like WillowWillow and BigfootBigfoot, so you can level safely without getting mobbed.

The alternative recommendation is to use any slotted Accessoryaccessory with Marine Sphere CardMarine Sphere Card for Magnum BreakMagnum Break mobbing, but that is usually a luxury route rather than a fresh-start option.

Equipment

For brand new players, the Eden Group Equipment QuestsEden Group Equipment Quests are especially helpful once your character is ready for them, because they provide a very reliable beginner gear path that smooths out early progression.

EquipmentDescription
A simple starter weapon is enough for most Novices unless you are specifically stretching toward Super Novice. Early progression is more about safe targets than gear optimization.
Simple starter armor helps while you clear the Academy and early Izlude-area quests. Any survivability piece is more than enough for a normal path to first job.
The guide specifically mentions this as the premium option for giving Novices access to Magnum Break-style AoE leveling through a carded accessory.
After speaking with Lime Evenor, this gives you practical Eden access and becomes one of the most useful starter items for ongoing progression.
AoY’s Eden onboarding and beginner support routes often hand out convenience items like this, which help reduce downtime while you are still moving between training systems.
