Transcendent Class Guides

Older class references still title this class Scholar, but on Age of Ymir the live job label is Professor. It is the transcendent continuation of , keeping the branch's anti-caster control, ground denial, elemental support, and book-based hybrid identity while adding a much stronger SP-management package.
Older Scholar references use several names that should be translated when you play on AoY: Soul Exhale is , Soul Siphon is , Fiber Lock is , Blinding Mist is , and Foresight is .
AoY also preserves the Sage-line flavor that already made this branch more flexible than older shorthand suggests. In particular, inherited remains an AoY-exclusive passive, so battle-book Professor is more realistic here than a plain reading of older summaries might imply.
Details
Professor is the transcendent Sage apex for SP control, anti-caster disruption, and technical magic support, with enough offensive tools to threaten burst kills when its setup lands cleanly.

Builds
The current iRO Scholar page does not publish fixed stat templates and instead points readers toward broader Sage and Sorcerer build planning. The build groupings below are an AoY-focused inference from that page's class overview, new-skill emphasis, and equipment notes so the guide stays practical inside our existing format.
This is the cleanest translation of the iRO page's main point: Professor becomes a favored party class because of its SP manipulation. gives allies immediate SP recovery, while lets you refill yourself by trading HP for SP.
This route keeps all the inherited Sage utility that already mattered in coordinated play, especially , , and , so it scales best in party, MVP support, and guild environments.
The iRO overview says Scholar offensive power jumps through Double Bolt, Foresight, and Fiber Lock. On AoY, that translates directly into , , and . This is the strongest straight damage Professor route if you want to stay spell-focused.
The practical idea is to lock targets with Spider Web, cut cast time with Memorize, then burst with bolts while and Double Casting amplify kill pressure.
This route is also an inference from the current iRO page, but it is a well-supported one. The page explicitly recommends Thorny Buckler plus Bison Horn for AGI and Hindsight setups, and AoY's inherited makes book Professor stronger here than old iRO shorthand usually implies.
You still play around , but Professor adds better utility layering through Soul Change, Spider Web, and Memorize, giving the build more technical depth than plain battle Sage.
Tactics
| Focus | How To Play It |
|---|---|
| SP Battery Loop | The current iRO page emphasizes that the class becomes valuable because it can feed SP to allies. On AoY, that is the plus cycle: convert HP into SP, then pass SP to the ally who needs it most. |
| Memorize Windows | halves cast time for the next five skills, which is exactly why the iRO page frames Foresight as one of Professor's main offensive upgrades. Use it before a real burst or utility window, not on random bolts. |
| Spider Web Combos | is the live AoY name for Fiber Lock. Its tooltip explicitly says Fire attacks deal 2.5 times more damage to webbed targets and cancel the status, so plan your follow-up spell around that instead of just treating it as a root. |
| Mind Breaker Discipline | lowers the target's MDEF but also raises its MATK. Use it for coordinated magic burst or on targets that are not threatening you with their own spells. |
| Soul Burn Limits | is the live AoY name for Soul Siphon, and the tooltip makes its real niche clear: it is only enabled in WoE and PvP maps, with a 15-second delay between uses. Treat it as a control weapon for those modes, not as a general PvM staple. |
| Inherited Sage Control | Professor is stronger because it does not give up the old Sage kit. , , and remain central to how the class wins space for the party. |
| Battle Book Route | If you commit to Hindsight play, lean into the current iRO page's Thorny Buckler + Bison Horn advice and AoY's inherited bonus. That route is more demanding than pure bolting, but it is better supported here than old guides suggest. |
Skills
The current iRO Scholar page focuses on the eight transcendent additions and assumes you already know the Sage core. That split still works, but the name mapping matters a lot on AoY. The rows below stay close to the current iRO page while using the live Professor labels players will actually see on this server.
| Icon | Skill | Max Level | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Active | 1 | AoY's live name for the iRO page's Blinding Mist. It creates a 5x3 fog field that blinds targets and heavily interferes with ranged pressure. | |
| Supportive | 5 | AoY's live name for Double Bolt. It grants a 40% to 80% chance for a bolt spell to repeat, which is the cleanest source of Professor burst pressure. | |
| Control | 1 | AoY's live name for Fiber Lock. It immobilizes a target, lowers its FLEE, and causes Fire attacks to hit for 2.5 times more damage before the web breaks. | |
| Supportive | 1 | AoY's live name for Foresight. It halves casting time for the next five skills and is one of the main reasons INT Professor can force burst windows. | |
| Supportive | 5 | Consumes 10% of your Max HP to restore 10% to 50% SP depending on level. It is the self-sustain half of the Professor SP engine. | |
| Debuff | 5 | Lowers the target's MDEF while raising its MATK. This is powerful for coordinated magic burst, but dangerous if used carelessly on enemy casters. | |
| Support | 1 | AoY's live name for Soul Exhale. It exchanges your remaining SP with the target's remaining SP, capped by your own Max SP, making it one of the branch's defining party tools. | |
| Offense | 5 | AoY's live name for Soul Siphon. It attempts to drain the target's SP, and at level 5 it can also deal damage equal to double your remaining SP, but only in WoE and PvP maps. |
Equipment
The current iRO Scholar page keeps equipment guidance short and organized around the same three planning layers we already use elsewhere: reuse when possible, lean on the broader iRO Equipment article for general-purpose PvM staples, and look ahead to the later Sorcerer-style direction instead of overspending on temporary trans gear.
AoY does not currently have a direct local Sorcerer route or a dedicated Sorcerer Equipment article, so the practical translation is simple: keep the iRO gearing priorities, but preserve your investment toward long-term Mage-line gear and Shadow Rune progression instead of treating Professor as a dead end.
| Category | Recommendations |
|---|---|
| Planning Articles | still covers the early bridge, while the iRO Equipment page remains the general-purpose reference. The current iRO Scholar page also points players toward Sorcerer Equipment for long-term planning. |
| Weapons | The current iRO page keeps the weapon list tight: and , with the note that both become especially effective around +9 to +10 refine. It also says Eden staff or dictionary routes remain good transitional choices if you are reusing old quest gear. |
| Armor | is the only armor the current iRO page names directly, and the reason is still straightforward on AoY: uninterrupted casting matters a lot for Professor utility and bolt pressure. |
| Shields | The source page names and . Orleans's Server fits standard caster Professor, while Thorny Buckler becomes much more attractive if you are following the AGI/Hindsight route with . |
| Shoes | Inference from the current iRO page: it does not single out a specific shoe option for Scholar and instead leans on the broader general-equipment article. On AoY, the clean move is to keep using the same caster or ASPD shoes that already supported your Sage path rather than buying a temporary trans-only pair. |
| Accessories | The current iRO page highlights , , and the broader Orleans cast combo. It specifically recommends and for cast-oriented bolt play, while and are the card suggestions for AGI / Hindsight setups. |
Leveling
| Range | Where | Why It Works |
|---|---|---|
| 80-90 | The current iRO Scholar page says leveling is still similar to regular Sage with a few new additions, so familiar late-Sage maps remain strong. Ice Dungeon is a clean place to use safer bolts, support tools, or early battle-book play. | |
| 85-99 | Good party and coordinated-farming map once Professor utility comes online. Support/SP-battery builds contribute strongly here even when they are not the highest raw-damage route. | |
| 90+ | The iRO overview frames Scholar as a class that wins through inventive utility rather than raw High Wizard-style damage. Once your basics are stable, the best leveling value often comes from group content where Soul Change, Land Protector, Dispell, and Spider Web matter. | |
| Quest Support | Eden quests still help smooth awkward gaps, especially if your build is more supportive than purely offensive. |
Job Change
On official iRO, Scholar sits behind the rebirth-era Book of Ymir and Valhalla route in Juno once your transcendent first-class Mage reaches Job Level 50. On Age of Ymir, that route is replaced by the server's direct transcendent promotion flow once your Sage reaches Base Level 80 and Job Level 50.
| Route | Where It Starts | What Changes On AoY |
|---|---|---|
| Official iRO Flow | The current iRO guide sends players through Juno's before the Scholar job NPC. | Use the iRO page for class identity, new-skill roles, job bonuses, and gear priorities, but not for the literal job-change route on AoY. |
| Direct Professor advancement through . | AoY's Job Changer system states that transcendent promotion requires Base Level 80 and Job Level 50, with no rebirth chain. Finish your Sage skill plan first, especially if you care about Hindsight or support prerequisites. |
Recommendation
- Use the AoY Job Changer for the real Professor progression path on this server.
- Decide before promoting whether your real plan is party support, bolt burst, or battle-book Hindsight.
- Keep your inherited Sage utility in mind when spending points, because Professor wins by layering new tools on top of that older control kit.
