Primary Class Guides

Thieves are agile single-target fighters built around quick dagger damage, evasive leveling, and strong field utility. On Age of Ymir, that means practical early power through , survivability from , and utility through and .
Most Thief leveling revolves around daggers, passive monsters, and staying difficult to hit, though the class can also branch into a niche bow-based route if you deliberately build around it. Either way, Thief is one of the cleanest first classes for players who enjoy fast movement and efficient one-target farming.

Builds
This is the default Thief leveling route. Weaken enemies with , avoid hits with and , then finish weakened monsters with fast dagger auto-attacks empowered by .
Since Thief has no natural AoE leveling skill, the guide recommends sticking to passive monsters early, or using a slotted with if you want access to mobbing.
This is a niche build that uses for a little range advantage while still relying on AGI and DEX to keep auto-attacks consistent. You lose normal dagger synergy from , so leveling is slower unless you deliberately build around outside sources of the skill effect.
Two major advantages of this route are having more DEX for higher success and the ability to use different elemental , including fire, wind, and holy options, to exploit monster elemental weaknesses more effectively.
The guide also highlights an alternative interaction: while does not naturally apply to bows, gear that grants Double Attack will inherit the level your Thief has actually learned. That means a Thief with learned level 10 Double Attack can still trigger level 10 rates and bonuses on a bow through items like , , , or . This path is best treated as a fun specialist route rather than the default leveling recommendation.

|---|---|---|---|
| Support | 1 | Cures poison on yourself or an ally. | |
| Passive | 10 | Adds a strong chance to strike twice when using daggers, forming the core of normal dagger Thief damage. | |

| Active | 10 | Lets you hide to break pressure and reposition, though some monsters and effects can still reveal or bypass it. | |
| Passive | 10 | Adds up to 30 flee and is one of the biggest reasons Thief feels safe and fast while leveling. | |
| Active | 10 | Steals additional loot from monsters, making Thief one of the better first classes for extra zeny generation. | |
| Quest | 1 | Instantly moves you backward, giving Thief one of the best mobility tools among early classes. | |

| Quest | 1 | Earth-element attack with a chance to blind the target. | |
| Quest | 1 | Throws a stone for fixed damage with a chance to inflict blind or stun. |
Equipment
For early beginners on AoY, the are very helpful once your character is ready for them, since they provide free gear that can carry Thief comfortably through early and mid-level progression.
| Equipment | Description |
|---|---|
| The official Thief Guild route rewards this starter dagger and is the best path if you want the free Thief quest skills immediately. | |
| The Enchanter Mounds route from the iRO guide still makes this one of the best early-value armor pieces for new characters. | |
| Simple HP card choice for early armor if you want extra safety while leveling on dodge-based builds. | |
| The iRO route highlights this as a major early-speed item for classes that want to power-level through Sunken Ship. | |
| Thief has no native AoE leveling skill, so this is one of the most important optional tools for players who want to brute-force early mobbing with Magnum Break. | |
| The bow Thief route specifically benefits from this because it can restore Double Attack behavior to non-dagger setups. |
Leveling
| Level Range | Location | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 3-56 | The fast route uses . Since Thief lacks an AoE skill, the guide suggests if you want to enable leveling. | |
| 10-21 | The iRO guide recommends early because it is easy to farm and also drops useful beginner sellable loot. | |
| 21-41 | Continue on passive targets like while your AGI / DEX setup comes online. | |
| 41-60 | Move into and target , , and . |
